The cyclone destroyed everything. Our house and our old toilet got flooded and became unusable. We could not rebuild another one and went into the open spaces. Now my children can use the newly built toilet near our house without fear even at night.

In our refugee centre, we strive to create a safe and respectful environment for everyone we assist. By applying the Sphere principles, we ensure that each individual receives not only material assistance but also appropriate psychological and social support. This includes access to clear and transparent information, participation in the decision-making process, and respectful and dignified treatment at all stages of our programme.

Through mobile health units, affected communities in Umerkot can access essential healthcare – guided by Sphere’s Health Standards and putting them into action on the ground.

We closely followed Sphere shelter standards when setting up refugee accommodations. For instance, when converting a parish house into a shelter, we organised the living spaces to prioritize privacy, safety, and comfort (Shelter and settlement 3: Living space, key actions). This included creating secure areas for families to perform essential domestic activities and maintain dignity in their new environment.
