If a natural or man-made disaster affects a village, district or country, every minute is needed to save lives. An immediate, coordinated and pre-programmed response is therefore essential. Crisis management and Sphere humanitarian standards are the basis of rescuers, mayors, humanitarian workers and personnel of psychosocial assistance, integration and restoration of a community or territory affected by natural disasters, biological epidemics, mass incidents, technological and natural disasters, or humanitarian crises.
A two-day training was held on the Slovak-Polish Border (Cerveny Klastor) for humanitarian and crisis intervention participants willing to work by international standards of quality and responsibility in rescuing and restoring communities affected by disasters and humanitarian or ongoing crises.
The training was preceded by an online survey and a virtual meeting to discuss the programme. Participants were actively involved in design action and contingency plans based on the Sphere standards.
During the training, trainees learned how to apply international Sphere standards and received manuals, lists, tools and solutions on how to proceed in different contexts.
After the training, they can better orient themselves in the humanitarian and crisis intervention standards and operational procedures in emergencies.
