Sphere and CHS Orientation Training – online – Jun to Aug 2020

Effectiveness of any humanitarian response depends on its quality of services and accountability of action. Sphere, a movement that started in 1997 by a group of humanitarian professionals aiming to improve the quality of humanitarian work during disaster response, marked the 20th anniversary of the Sphere Handbook.

The role of Faith based organizations (FBO) in humanitarian crisis is significantly high as every day, FBOs contribute to overall delivery of lifesaving assistance to millions of people affected by natural disasters and conflicts. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)’s Lutheran Disaster Response program is unique in that it recognizes the significance of improved capacity of humanitarian actors aligning with Sphere, including the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).

In continuation to its efforts to build the capacity of staff in humanitarian actions, ELCA in partnership with Lutheran World Relief (LWR) have developed a virtual model of capacity building for its companion churches and ecumenical relief agencies. Through this model, partner members will be able to acquire knowledge through distant learning methods. This model will run through 8 weeks and will be completed in 4 phases. Participants can access the documents and complete the course within 8 weeks.
