Founded 150 years ago, the ICRC is the world’s oldest humanitarian organization. It works worldwide to provide assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of war.

Independent and neutral, the organization is based in Geneva, Switzerland. It employs some 12,000 staff in 80 countries. The ICRC staff can now take the Sphere course in Arabic, English, French and Spanish.

The Sphere e-learning course aims to increase the understanding and effective use of the Sphere Handbook, Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response. An ambitious training program on Sphere principles and standards, the course allows humanitarian workers to learn at their own pace in an autonomous manner.
